Hailed by none other than Stan Lee as the franchise to multiply like rabbits, evolving popularity launched the X-Men realm into an overwhelming ensemble of characters. From the clawed canuck fan favorite to the very first class of Silver Age children of the atom, countless mutants have embedded themselves into the annuls of notoriety. Yet this fact brings about one cinematic dilemma. With a seemingly endless list of worthy roles to elect…who the hell do you pick for your film? Of course you can always take veteran X director Bryan Singers seeming approach on Days of Future Past: Why not use them all?
Over the passing months, numerous Xavier’s school graduates have been announced as returning for the practical High School reunion. Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore and Ellen Page are all confirmed reprisals. Much like the Wolverine of comic lore, Hugh Jackman is also apparently getting paid overtime by appearing in every X-Men related object known to man and mutant-kind. The First Class crew of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult are also reuniting for the now slightly older yet confusingly younger (oh time-travel stories) 1970’s era cinematic X-team. Even murmurs of Nightcrawler and Storm being placed upon the “In Consideration” list have sprung largely due to Alan Cummings open confession to missing the deep blue teleporter. Yet something almost forgotten has suddenly occurred. For the very first time in some time…we have an entirely new actor coming to the stage.
Game of Thrones scene-stealer Peter Dinklage is giving the First Class sequel some much needed freshness. Bryan Singer announced the addition today via Twitter – HERE – in his usual fashion. Dinklage is no stranger to beloved pop culture. Appearing in both the Chronicles of Narnia and portraying the wittily endearing Tyrion (earning a much-deserved Emmy for Best Supporting Actor) have him keenly experienced for the pressures of taking on a preconceived world. While leaving his role up to pure speculation…(Puck of Alpha Flight fame?)…it’s certain that a Lannister always pays his debts. His and all the cast debt being to make up for the underwhelming X-Men: The Last Stand.
UPDATE! – According to Variety’s sources Peter Dinklage will play the villain in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Details are scarce at this time and there is no word on who the character is, but it seems Dinklage will play not only an antagonist but the MAIN antagonist. From what we’ve heard about the upcoming sequel we already know there are numerous changes from the source material, so it’s anybody’s guess who exactly the actor will play. Do you have a guess? Who would you want to see Dinklage play?
