starwars-episode7bEver since Disney acquired the license to a galaxy far away, the media has churned out cheap hocus pocus to stoke smoke-and-mirror news. Yet occasionally something valid seeps through their libel and into the realm of possibility. The wet-dream of every ye old Star Wars aficionado was a narrative divulging the happenings of the post-Return of the Jedi original trilogy protagonists, something gleefully exploited by the media. Yet with yesterdays announcement of Carrie Fisher returning to her calling as the plucky Princess of Alderaan, this brought in question the actualities of the entire cast of classics sincerely reprising. We didn’t have to wait long for the reveal. Today George Lucas recently spoke with Bloomberg BusinessweekHERE – and confirmed that all three would return in Episode VII saying, “We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation.” While George’s word  has oft proven unreliable in the past, he eluded to honesty with a followed-up quote showing some seeming regret at prematurely unwrapping the presents. “Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.” he added. “I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.” Does this mean Depends in a geriatric galaxy far, far away? Does this bode farewell to beloved Expanded Universe novels? What of Chewbacca? Lando? The Droids? Possibly raising more question than ever answers…you’ll just have to punch it into the light-speeding future of 2015 to find out.
