As if the youth of today wasn’t lazy enough as it is Hasbro has decided to remove the complicated process transforming your Transformers. Transformers used to come with one of these!
That’s right you other 80’s babies know it came with instructions on how to make your Transformer go from car to robot, and if you were one of those who needed to get all the pieces to a figure like Devastator it showed you how to connect closet to 6 toys to make one ultimate larger figure!
Happiest moment in my life was when I finally found the crane! He was the hardest piece of the puzzle to find. Now however According to The New York Times you will need nothing more than the flick of the wrist to transform your robots… What’s the point then? I mean at that point it feels almost like we are now getting larger versions of toys that would be in my McDonald’s Happy Meals… But oh wait even those required some time!…
Granted no much but still more than a “flick of the wrist”
Here is what is stated in that article:
Enthralled by the special effects in three big-budget “Transformers” movies that enabled the robots to convert in a matter of seconds, Mr. Goldner decided the toys needed to return to their roots. So he challenged his design team to reconceive them. Now, on the 30th anniversary of the brand, Hasbro is revealing a new look for the toys, including simple maneuvers that will complete a transformation with the push of a button or flick of the wrist. …
The new look should help bolster retail sales, said Jaime M. Katz, an analyst at Morningstar, adding that redesigns are expected these days. “Toys were much simpler 30 years ago,” she said. “Everything has to keep evolving.”
The toys’ streamlined transformations also address the need for instant gratification sought by children today, she said. “A toy like this gets them where they are going faster.”
Mr. Lamb conceded that the brand had gotten a little off track over the years. “As new designers and engineers continued to work on this brand, it got more complicated,” he said. Hasbro will continue to make complex Transformers for adult fans who have collected the toys since their inception 30 years ago. But the new design is intended to re-engage parents and children, who found the transformations too challenging.
I don’t understand the much simpler 30 years ago. I think what they mean by that is that 30 years ago it wasn’t easy to build these little guys so all the moves had be done manually as opposed spring loaded. Just aggravating, I am gonna help you Hasbro the reason that the toy sales are sooo low is because your prices have increased. When I was a kid I didn’t own Optimus Prime because we couldn’t afford him, however his side cast of characters were all cheap enough to purchase back then. In addition to that when I was a kid we had the original cartoon that flooded our imaginations and made us want to own the toy version. You are currently putting a good chunk of your stock in a toy line that marries up with a movie that comes out about ever 3-4 years. That is not enough “product placement” lets call it to cause a kid to stay connected to buying the toys. Come back out with a GOOD cartoon and then you might see a jump in sales.
