I was really hoping that the author of the novel Ready Player One was going to get to at least co-write his own movie, like he did for Fanboys. But apparently that won’t be the case with the film adaptation of Ernest Cline‘s awesomely 80’s sci-fi adventure about Gunter Wade Watts and his egg hunt. Seriously, if you haven’t read the book and you love all things 80’s, what the heck are you waiting for? Or, if you like audiobooks, it’s read by Wil Wheaton. It’s one of my favorite reads.
Having already been optioned 4 years ago by Warner Brothers, it looks like Zak Penn (who’s previously written X-Men 2, the story for the The Avengers, TV show Alphas.….and X-Men: The Last Stand and Elektra) will be taking care of the rewrite of the script for the film. Apparently he’s also currently helping Guillermo Del Toro to write a script for Pacific Rim 2. Empire Online had a nice write up about it, actually.
Hopefully this film will happen though, even though I think the story would lend itself better to a mini series ala The 10th Kingdom or Tin Man.
