Aggressors, I love video games. I bet you do too. I love the world building, I love the fighting, I love the complete immersion that comes with a truly well-crafted game, and I love above all, a good story. Gone Home by Fullbright Games, was released in 2013 to excellent reviews. If you missed purchasing it then, it’s available on Playstation Plus for free until next week.

I played through it completely in a day, and I could not be happier with that decision. Gone Home really lends itself to playing through in one sitting, but if you want to you could easily play this a little at a time to draw out the mystery as long as possible. There is definitely mystery in this game, and I think that’s why I had such a good time playing it. It’s not often that a game comes around that’s a first person shooter, with no shooting, but a TON of great story elements to uncover and put together.

Your character in the game in Katherine Greenbriar, who has been on a rather fabulous European adventure and is now returning home to her family and their new home at 1 Arbor Hill, in the middle of the night, in the rain, in Portland, Oregon. When you open the front door, there is no one there and a note on the door. Sounds like the beginning of a horror game with a bunch of imminent jump scares, doesn’t it? I truly thought that’s what I was playing until the very last few minutes of the game, Fullbright games has done an excellent job of creating a story that you think is probably one way and defies your expectations at the very end.

It’s a beautifully crafted game, in both story and environment they have definitely thought through all the aspects of good storytelling while making Gone Home. I would describe it as more of a living novel, or a mystery television series that you get to be a part of, rather than a standard video game on the market. You could play through this game a few times before you found all the secret clues, side stories and hidden nuances. It’s really something I’ve never seen before, and I can’t wait to get more of.

Fullbright Games has announced a new title, Tacoma, that will be set on a space station and will be released in the spring of 2017. We eagerly await it’s addition to our gaming libraries, watch the trailer here.
