Remember when we told you Lucy Griffiths had left NBC’s Constantine before the series even aired?  Well, after that entire hullabaloo (fired vs outright quitting for Griffiths) it looks like John‘s new female pal Zed has been cast.

Angelica Celaya (Burn Notice) will be taking on the role of Zed, Deadline reports.  Matt Ryan who plays the title character described Zed with “an interesting dark past” and called her a perfect foil for the Constantine character. “Zed is intuitive, she can detect bullshit,” he said, and Constantine is a “bullshit artist.”

The producers said that there was no need to reshoot the pilot without Griffiths.  In Constantine’s life, showrunner David S. Goyer said, “characters drop around him like flies” and having the character leave the show seemed “kind of consistent with the character.”

The show will premiere the pilot at San Diego Comic Con later this month, and it’s official air date has been set on NBC as October 24th at 10pm.
