Tested on the roads of Argentina where two-lane roads are common, Samsung recently unveiled the prototype of what they call the “Safety Truck’’. The Safety Truck encompasses a wireless camera that transmits video of what’s in front to a flat screen attached to the back. This is intended to help drivers see what’s in front of the 18-wheeled truck when they are driving behind it.

Overtaking a truck can be tricky and dangerous for the car driver and the truck driver. Having friends and family who drives trucks for a living, I can guarantee they will agree this is pretty sweet technology. Unfortunately Samsung said the prototype is no longer operational but the idea can save lives. I mean not all of us can be Fast and the Furious drivers in cool little civics.

Samsung is not the first to show off such “see through” technology for vehicles. Keio University in Japan developed a similar prototype for the Toyota Prius that makes the car interior transparent using cameras mounted on the back. That allows the driver to see things outside the car that they normally would not see. But then again it’s a Prius, they never see who’s behind them yet alone try to overtake a truck.
