The Dark Knight Rises Trailer 3: The Legend Ends

This is it, The last trailer for the final film in Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. This moment is bittersweet to say the least. It has been merely 7 years since the taste of bat-nipples was wiped away from our palette and that is all thanks to Batman Begins. Lifting us out of ,or perhaps more fittingly, dropping us into the darkness following Schumacher’s universally panned douche-chill fest, (ice pun not intended) Batman and Robin. With only a few months until the “legend ends” I am left thinking, What now? Batman to me is both the alpha and omega. He is why I do what I do. He is not the ultimate superhero and that fact actually make him just that. Batman is tragic, flawed yet has amazing will and strength and Nolan’s films have captured everything I love about the caped crusader.

I have watched this latest trailer as well as it’s predecessors adnauseum…Every day…I’m talking multiple fucking times. I really do have a problem, my obsession with the character rivals his must deranged of villains.

However I digress, what these trailer’s have instilled in me is the fact that this will truly be Nolan’s magnum opus. It is his last love letter to the icon who has elevated his career into the stratosphere. You can feel the sadness in how trailer three plays out. Sadness I believe felt by even Nolan himself for having to leave this world behind. The imagery akin to Knightfall and No Man’s Land reaffirms that not only Bruce Wayne, but Gotham itself is truly in their most desperate hour.

To all the naysayers out there who still feel like Bane is a weak villain choice, please kindly remove your head from your ass. This is Bane here! The man that broke the bat, not just physically but psychologically! We are not talking about the Clock King or the Goddamned Cavalier! If you truly dumb the character down to being some roided out freak in a luchadore mask, well then with all due respect you are a dipshit. Bane is Batman’s equal in every way physically and mentally. If the Joker is Batman’s antithesis then Bane is his mirror image. A few forks taken differently in the road and either of them could have become the other. The choice at this stage of the game is perfect and no less than poetic as I surmise that this film will draw a lot of parallels to Batman Begins. Is Bane the man that Ra’s envisioned Bruce becoming, is he the one with “the will to act”. My feeling is yes, hence why Batman’s punishment must be “more sever”. I have loved Tom Hardy since the film Bronson and way back when I heard of his casting I was indeed giddy. The calm to Bane’s voice is truly unnerving. It is a role I’m sure any actor could have the potential to overdue in a boisterous fashion, but what I have seen of Hardy so far is truly terrifying. To be both so imposing and collected is impressive and I cannot wait till we see this menace unleashed on the streets of Gotham.

Hathaway’s Selina Kyle shines through in trailer 3. Sultry voiced without coming off ham handed, and what moves! Seeing Catwoman side by side with the Dark Knight and kicking serious ass is nothing less than a “geekgasm’. Seriously though, enough bitching about the costume people! Admittedly I had my reservations, but after seeing it in action, this is Catwoman! Completely functional like the new batsuit, classically sexy with an old school nod, and delightfully lethal (look at those damn heels, they are every dude’s nightmare). I feel it has been easy to overlook her as part of this amazing cast but I have a feeling her turn as Selina will leave quite an impact on us when all is said and done.

In closing, while I still find myself trying to enjoy the ride I can’t help but look ahead cause I know that is all the studios are doing. I hope they take a decent amount of time off from Batman and focus on some of the other DC heroes. Lord knows they havea lot to make up for after Green Lantern. Where will they go next with Batman? The biggest disservice they could do to the Nolan trilogy would be to continue the series in his world. I say a complete 180 is necessary. Let’s continue down that dark road where the Bat does indeed dwell, but tone down the realism. Lets see villains like ManBat and Croc. Bring back that element of the supernatural in a Gotham where anything can happen but set yourself apart from what we have seen before. It might behoove DC to follow suit with the Marvel Filmverse formula. Truth be told I have had my own Batman trilogy leading up to JLA in mind for the last five years, so someone do me a favor and get me a meeting with WB…kay…Thanks much! —Dom—

PS: If you have not seen the third trailer yet, well what the shit is wrong with you!? Here it is for your enjoyment.

PPS: There is something about Hans Zimmer’s scoring that makes me well up every single time. I don’t know if I am just a sappy douche, but his music hits me on a emotional level. I seriously have to dab my eyes like a bitch after every viewing of this thing….(Sniffle)
