Coming within the excitement of the soon-to-be 3D re-release of the contemporary classic, the much rumored fourth installment of the Jurassic Park series has been officially confirmed. After the lackluster abomination that was the third film in the franchise, it’s a miracle the series didn’t remain extinct. Long engineered, Universal announced today that it’s being produced by none other than Steven Spielberg and set for June 2014 3D release. While the director has yet to be announced and plot-details are all but Paleolithic, it would seem life finds a way. Deriving from two acclaimed novels by the late Michael Crichton, the third film being a pseudo-amalgam of made-up scenes with left-over scrapped portions from the books the prior films omitted, Jurassic Park 4 has little to no source material left to excavate. This film will offer an entirely new and unexplored story inevitably riddled with both new and familiar scaly terrors.
Digging up the dirt, Jurassic Park 4 originally sounded like a bigger train-wreck than a dinosaur-populated theme park attraction. Years ago a completely different iteration of the project came from William Monahan (The Departed) and John Sayles (The Spiderwick Chronciles) in which dinosaurs were cross-bred with human DNA in order to create militaristic weapons for the US government. Apparently now being penned by Rise of the Planet of the Apes screenwriters, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, it’s safe to say we won’t be seeing any hybrid marine raptors with bazooka-aimed goals of gaining vengeance for their extinction. At least…let’s hope not.
