Do you ever come home and are too tired to even think about cooking? What do you do? You hit up the local fast food place near you cause it’s convenient. What if you came home and all you had to do is place your order and have your robot do it? Awesome right? Don’t expect droid straight out of The Jetsons. Instead think something a little more like Jarvis from the Iron Man movies.
Moley Robotics has developed a pair of high-tech robotic arms that by the time it hits the market will be able to cook up to 2,000 world-renowned dishes. Freaking insane, I hope it makes Miso Ramen *fingers crossed* . The dish that has been demonstrated so far is a Crab Bisque made by Tim Anderson, the 2011 winner of Master Chef.
Can you talk to it? Sort of, you choose what you want using your phone and the system will begin to prepare it. Most robotic systems use code to determine their actions. The company wanted to give the food look and taste of high quality dishes matching that of top chefs around the world. A 3-d camera records a real chef preparing the food, converting the motions into algorithms to be created by the robotic unit.
The Robot chef hands are created and operated by 20 motors, 24 joint, and 129 processors to mimic the same range of motion human hands can make. The creators claim this is the first ever fully automated kitchen, since other culinary robotic systems have been created. Their ultimate goal is to set up an “app store for food”, which would allow the robotic kitchen to download any dish and recipe they crave.
“Whether you love food and want to explore different cuisines, or fancy saving a favorite family recipe for everyone to enjoy for years to come, the Automated Kitchen can do this,”said Mark Oleynik, founder of Moley Robotics.
The estimated price for your own cooking Jarvis will only run you about $15,000. Check out this video of it in action
