Take this news with whatever grain of choice, but it looks like that major disappointment of modern suspense is going to tackle a much beloved horror series.
I’m talking of course of M. Night Shyamalan (Sixth Sense, Signs), the once promising director and visionary who somewhere along the line stopped caring about his stories. M. Night will be partnering with TNT to re-boot Tales from the Crypt.
Early reports from Deadline state we can expect a two hour block of horror and suspense content once a week. The block will feature both short and long form content, with the new Tales from the Crypt the centrepiece offering. Based on the original EC Comics by William Gaines as well as new stories, Shyamalan will exec produce each of the tales with Ashwin Rajan, his partner at Binding Edge Pictures.
It’s nice to see real evidence that the executives over at TNT are completely out of their minds, judging by this comment from the EVP of original programming Sarah Aubrey: “This is a new genre for us in our series efforts and a great chance to partner with M Night Shyamalan, whose blockbuster hit The Visit reminded movie audiences and critics this past summer that he truly is a master of horror.”
REALLY?! A blockbuster? What reports are you looking at there, Sarah? I guess we’ll just have to wait to see how this plays out, but do yourself a favor and watch/listen to MovieBob’s review of The Visit.
