In the excitement of Curiosity touching down upon our Red Planet, an infamous hoax photo has been circling the net to fool the astronomically gullible. Needless to say, disappointing as it may be…our solar system doesn’t have two suns. The surface of Mars may bare a topographical resemblance to the Lars homestead of Luke Skywalker’s childhood, but unless those Jawa’s are as cowering as they seem, that’s about the extent of their similarities. Poodoo!

…but in a coincidence of near planetary alinement, astronomers have now discovered the real-world Tatooine (link) of Star Wars lore some 5,000 light-years away. Kepler-47b and Kepler-47c are two alien planets that revolve around none other than twin suns. Science fiction slowly becomes science fact in the wake of discover. Whether they’re inhabited by whiny farm-boys who brood over their binary sunsets is still on NASA’s to-find list.
