Sure, you can shake your head all you want about photos on Instragram being ‘important’ movie news, but if Bryan Singer wasn’t sharing X-Men: Apocalypse photos from the set, I wouldn’t be nearly as interested in the upcoming film as I am.

Some of you may not be familiar with the underlaying story of Apocalypse, the ‘first’ mutant, but it appears Singer will be definitely going with the early Egyptian motif used heavily in the comics for En Sabah Nur’s backstory:

Anubis is lookin’ drop dead gorgeous there, sporting the trademark blue and yellow of classic comic Apocalypse.  Maybe this means we’ll see yet another color scheme for Big Blue, and all you people comparing the released images of Oscar Isaac in the role to Power Rangers villain Ivan Ooze can shut the heck up.  (Yes, I totally agree the color is EXTREMELY similar, but I’ve seen the trailer and some other shots of the character, he doesn’t always look like that.)  If you haven’t seen the leaked trailer from SDCC yet, here’s a place you can still watch it.

Something to keep in mind about this particular X-film is that it will be both a completion of the series as we know it, and a possible new beginning for future movies.  Read Bryan Singer’s interview with Entertainment Weekly to see what I’m talking about.

You can also see that Singer is starting to use the #notallgreenscreen hashtag, teasing a possibly practical effects heavy superhero film.  Needless to say, the more I’m seeing, the more I’m excited, which isn’t something I ever thought I’d say about a Singer X-Men film.

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27th, 2016.
