Help fight cancer.  At a Game of Thrones party.  In a castle.  With beer.

Do I have your attention?  Oh good.  Saturday April 5th, 2014 there will be an event held at the San Francisco Armory building (otherwise known as Kink.com) that includes these things.  Hack Cancer is a SF based group “made up of philanthropic, young professionals in San Francisco who create fun events that bring together great people to raise awareness and funds for good causes”.  They’ve done several fund raisers before, and 100% of the proceeds raised by “A Royal Affair” will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma society.

The event is described as transforming San Francisco’s landmark Armory building into 40,000 square feet of Westeros and the Free Cities. From The Wall to Winterfell, the market of Qarth to King’s Landing, join for an evening of live performing arts including sword dueling by iron-clad knights, great music, and medieval actors. Two stages with top area DJs will complete the experience.  (It also coincides nicely with the Season 4 premiere of the HBO series, which returns on Sunday April 6th, 2014)

“We’re thrilled to have found a castle where we can have this celebration around the new season of Game of Thrones,” said event producer Neil Kay. “Having the opportunity feels a lot like entering Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory”.

The event will also be closing off the adjacent portion of Julian Avenue and offering a selection of local gourmet food truck options.  There will also be beer, as mentioned, from Ommegang Brewery who have created an official line of ales, stouts, and lagers based on the various houses in the GoT series.  The most recent offering is the fire and blood red ale, for the Targaryen dynasty.  Also, make sure you click around the house logos on the Hack Cancer site, there will be even more details.  And there is of course an official Facebook event listing, too.

As far as dress code?  “Costumes are encouraged but not required, those without costumes are encouraged to dress in cocktail attire, but all are welcome”.  (I personally am making a brand new costume to wear for this, because I have issues.)

Tickets are still available for the event from eventbrite, and we’ll do a follow up post after the weekend with photos and such.
