I’ve become a fan of Chromebook ever since getting one last year. It’s not my main laptop, which is a MacBook, but I use it frequently when I’m out on the road. Acer is now announcing ahead of CES 2015 a 15 inch Chromebook with a 16GB SSD drive and 2GB of RAM for just $249.99. You’ll be able to upgrade that to 4GB of RAM and a 32GB SSD drive. Other features include a webcam, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, SD card reader, backwards compatible USB 3 and HDMI ports. They claim 8 hours of battery life but I’ve never seen a device last the advertised battery use so I’m skeptical.
Acer will be showcasing the new large Chromebook at CES 2015, I suspect Chrome’s GUI on a 1920×1080 screen will look pretty crappy. We’ll see when we start getting a hands on report.
Other announcements from Acer are the 13 inch Chromebook is getting a touchscreen display, the Aspire S7 is upgrading to the new 5th generation Intel chips, the Aspire V 17 Nitros will have Intel’s RealSense 3D built in and an HD projector with integrated Chromecast.
