zach (8)Artist short profile:
– Name: Zach Fischer.
– Location: Portland, OR. United States.
– Artistic style: Anything and everything. I feel that establishing a set “style” is limiting, as it begins to place boundaries on further artistic exploration and growth.

Artist continued profile. Let’s get a tiny bit personal:

– What are your goals as an artist?: I like creating worlds. The ability to bring something that previously existed solely as a thought within my own mind into a visual reality for others to see and enjoy is my primary aim. There’s a lot of badass stuff going on in there 24/7…I figure it’d be a crime to hide it from everyone.
.
– Favourite artist/why?: My older brother, Ben Dewey. He and I used to doodle around drawing Ninja Turtles as kids…now we both draw comics professionally. He’s always been there in my corner helping me improve, pushing me to go further, and showing me some awesome new tricks and abilities along the way. He is the reason I got into the comics industry a few years ago.
.
.
totoro– What do you think of Comics being made into movies?: I love it. I may not always agree with the particular choices made by the directors, designers, writers, but overall, I think anything that keeps people interested in comics, and bolsters a desire for more comics to be created is a great thing. Comics are a truly remarkable vehicle for narrative and are responsible for some of our most loved cultural icons and profound modern mythologies.
.
– Has reading a Comic ever changed your life? Which one/why?: I would say that there was never one comic specifically, but rather comics as a whole that changed my life. I have my favorites of course, but it’s the collective experience that draws fond memories.
.
– If you could collaborate with anybody who would it be/why?: I already get to collaborate with a lot of my favorite writers and artists fairly regularly because of my prior internship with Periscope Studio here in Portland, but I would love to work directly with the famed Adam Hughes some day. Even if it were just working in the same room.
.

– If someone created a Comic about your life what would they title it?:

“It’s 2am and there’s more to draw. Pass the coffee.”
.
– Favourite Comic artist of all time/why?: That would be the aforementioned Adam Hughes. Not only is he one of the most respected, skilled, and mind-blowingly creative comics artists in the biz, but he’s also a super nice guy!
.
– What do you prefer to snack on when creating a masterpiece?: Sweet & Spicy bbq Sun Chips, cocoa roasted almonds, Tillamook smoked cheddar cheese, fresh raspberries, french press coffee and Italian soda.
.
– Where do you ‘draw’ your daily inspiration from?: Honestly, from everywhere. I love video games, the more dramatically epic the better. I love Sci-Fi shows like Fringe, Stargate SG-1, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek etc. I read a lot of fantasy novels as well.

– Were there any defining moments in your life that have influenced your artistic style?: Oh geez..well, this is gonna show how big of a nerd I am, but don’t worry, I’m proud of it. The very first time I watched the opening cinematic for World of Warcraft (vanilla) I got goosebumps all over. I realized at that moment that I wanted to be part of something that gave people that same feeling. I love the stylistic choices of the Blizzard art team. I still dream of one day being a part of their staff. Oh…and I still get goosebumps every time I watch that cinematic.
.
.
zach (4)– What is something not many know about you?: I sang in a barbershop quartet back in high school. (Shhhhhhh don’t tell anyone, ok?)
.
– Do you collect anything?, If so/what?: I actually collect the lanyards I get when I attend comic/gaming conventions. I have quite a number of them by now. I hope it grows exponentially as I get deeper into the comics sphere.
.
– Likes: Dark roast coffee fresh from the press pot, power metal, new art supplies, “dark chocolate raspberry” anything, hugs, puns, cosplayers, giant robots, giant monsters, air guitar, wearing a nice suit, thunderstorms, green tea, traditional Asian culture/music/art, constructive criticism, intellectualism, and lots of other things. I enjoy life and most of what it has to offer.
.
– Dislikes: Most modern slang words, close-mindedness, willing ignorance, I pretty much dislike a large percentage of modern popular music. OHH also, I hate that feeling you get in your shoes when you step in a puddle and the water seeps in through either a mesh part or some seams in your shoe, and zach (2)now you have wet feet and socks.
.
– Favourite joke: Two atoms are walking down the street. One suddenly stops and says, “Oh no, I’ve lost an electron.”
“Are you sure?”
“I’m positive!”
.
– If you were to pick one Comic character to Marry/Kill and Sleep with for each category, who would it be/why?: Hmm I’d marry Wonder Woman because if I’m good enough to be married to HER…I must be just about the most “super” guy around (See what I did there?) I’d kill Thanos…because well…it’s really hard to do, and it’d be a damn impressive line on a resume. I’d sleep with Powergirl because…boobs…that’s why.
.
– If you could have any power from a Comic character, what would it be/why?: I would have to say Green Lantern’s ring. It can do pretty much anything he can imagine. My imagination is pretty boundless so there’s not much I wouldn’t be able to do.
.
.
zach (7)– Any thank you’s/shoutouts?: Well firstly to everyone at Periscope Studio here in Portland, OR. Without their infinite wisdom and valuable course corrections, I don’t know where I’d be. My loving and supporting family. My lovely girlfriend London, who keeps me healthy, happy and focused. All of my Masonic brethren throughout the world. My cosplayer friends Riddle, MC Bourbonnais, Freddie Nova, Lindze, Monika Lee, Yaya Han, and others who continually provide me with inspiration and ideas. My fellow artist colleagues without whom I wouldn’t have anyone to try to impress thus keeping me motivated. My good friends back in my hometown of Cleveland, OH. And of course all of you at Aggressive Comix who keep me entertained throughout the day!
