Reshoots for a big budget movie are not a new thing, and we shouldn’t be concerned that Joss Whedon is getting the team back together for some Avengers 2: Age of Ultron reshoots in January.  The most INTERESTING part about this news is the ongoing rumor that Captain Marvel will make her appearance.

The most well thought out piece I’ve read about this possibility is from Badass Digest, but be prepared for an unsubstantiated spoiler on how the film might end if you read it.  (ScreenRant also has a post with similar conclusions drawn.)  The author reminds us it is unlikely we’ll get our first on screen look at Carol Danvers in Guardians of The Galaxy 2, as director James Gunn said he “didn’t want Richard Ryder in the sequel because he wanted to keep Star-Lord as the sole Earther in his movie”, which means no Danvers for GoTG2.

So why are we saying we might get Captain Marvel?  Partially, this comment from Joss Whedon at the premiere of GoTG in London:

“There are four prominent female roles in the center of the movie. And I think a more balanced presence throughout the movie.  But you know, the guys are all there. There are more of them too. Hopefully it will satisfy everybody. I’m not trying to fulfill an agenda. But I’m interested in men and women. I’m interested in grown-ups who act like children and dress like clowns and punch each other.”

Four main women; Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Maria Hill, and Peggy Carter.  Unless, we’re not counting appearances of Agents Hill and Carter as ‘prominent’.  Let’s remember in that same red carpet outing, when asking directly if  Ms./Captain Marvel Carol Danvers will have a role in the upcoming Marvel movie, Whedon replied:

“I like her too. That’s all I can say. I’m a fan of most Marvel comics. It’s like a disease. I can’t stop. “

This post from Daily Mail has a listing of the characters listed in the reshoot scenes, so we can draw our own conclusions as to what they’re actually filming.  CinemaBlend thinks this could very well be a shoot schedule for a post credit scene for Ultron that might set up Thor 3: Ragnarok.  But, it could also very well be the introduction of the character of Captain Marvel.

We’ll just have to wait and see if there is a casting confirmation anytime soon.  (We’re still holding out for Katee Sackhoff or Katheryn Winnick.)
