I consider myself a pretty hearty X Men fan, (even though I prefer the couple of Magneto and Rogue to Rogue and Gambit) and I understand the desire to have “The Ragin’ Cajun” make an appearance in the X Men film franchise.  OH WAIT, he already did!  Taylor Kitsch took on the role of the man from Louisiana in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009.

It was announced last week that Channing Tatum has been cast OFFICIALLY as Gambit in a future X-Men film.  But, today, MoviePilot ran a quote from Tatum at a press junket in Cannes where he is promoting his new film Foxcatcher.  Channing’s quote makes it sound like it ISN’T officially a done deal yet:

“I hope to be joining — everything’s not done yet. I’ve obviously been in talks, and we’re on the one yard line. I’m always afraid of being like, ‘Yes it’s totally happening’ and then it doesn’t happen.”

So, take that as you will.  Hopefully we’ll know more after the dust from the current X-franchise release settles.  The current theory is Gambit will be reintroduced in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse.
