Creator short profile:
– Name: My name is Sorab Del Rio. I’m a marketing manager by day and also the publisher, writer and creator for Silver Fox Comics.
– Location: Sydney Australia.
– Writing style: My writing style depends on the project I am working on. I think as a writer you need to be able to write in a variety of different styles. I’ve worked on properties such as Zorro to my own creator owned projects such as Zombie Cities and each demands a different perspective. Zombie Cities in my most recent project and this is horror comedy with biting satire, wit and irreverence.

Creator continued profile. Let’s get a tiny bit personal:
.
– What are your goals as a creator?: At the heart of any creator, our goal is to entertain and enchant the world with our stories. Right now I am working on the Zombie Cities Violence vs Compassion graphic novel. The goal with this project is to re-define and challenge what can be done with the zombie genre.  We are not following the traditional Walking Dead formula and standard depressing survivor tale stories. You’ll see it visually from the bright bold colours of Zombie Cities.  The story lines are unlike any other zombie stories ever done before exploring political issues, culture, human issues, relationships, violence and compassion, but all wrapped up in horror comedy. Right now this is only released in Australia but I hope to release this overseas and have a worldwide fan base. Another goal I have is to define categorisation. The next project I have is an all ages action comedy comic. This will be followed by a comic in the style of daily strips like Peanuts, Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield etc  This again gets back to my diversity as a writer.
– What do you think of Comics being made into movies?: This is of course the holy grail for any comic creator that a comic would be made into a movie. I am however tired of seeing spandex heroes comic movies. The comic genre has evolved so far beyond this and I would hope producers look beyond the predictable to look at comics being done by indie creators.

– Has reading a Comic ever changed your life? Which one/why? (If yes): This is a rather dramatic question. It is personal. I was strung out on heroin and various drugs for many years.  Alcoholism, depression and drugs are a lethal combination and I almost killed myself many a time. At my lowest point I was stealing money to get high. I then read a Garfield comic strip and I laughed so much that I found if I kept reading Garfield each day, I would slowly and gradually get out of my depression. I then started reading more and more comics and slowly I phased the drugs out of my system to be replaced by a comic a day addiction. – This story is of course bullshit 😉 I love comics and I am addicted to them but I can’t say they have changed my life.

– If someone created a Comic about your life what would they title it?: The Man Who Was Undefinable. – I ran into an old friend from school recently and he described me to my date saying  “At school, you had all the different groups, the jocks, the brains, the nerds, the Wogs, the Asians. Sorab didn’t belong into any group and yet he could float between any group and no one else at school could do this. One day you’d see him with the brains, the next day with the wogs. He was just undefinable”. This I think must carry through into my writing.

– Where there any defining moments in your life that have influenced your creative style?: I got style/s. I’m not someone who has dramatic moments that define my creative styles. For me I keep myself open to different stories. I try to avoid reading mainstream spandex comics as I find it predictable to the power of infinity. I look at indie creators, i watch a lot of foreign films, I do like documentaries, and human interest high emotion stories, relationships between people stories appeal to me.  These all have an influence.

– Favourite Comic writer of all time/why?: Favourite Comic artist of all time/why?:
I’m sorry to say these 2 above questions are ridiculous. Anyone who has a singular favourite writer or artist shows themselves to be short sighted or not widely exposed to the incredible sea of talent we have in the comic world. And often the styles are incomparable. I can tell you what I have read in the last month which I enjoy: Incognito, Chew, Revival, Cursed Pirate Girl, Long John Silver, Calvin and Hobbes, Dennis the Menace

– What do you prefer to snack on when creating a masterpiece?: A 7 course de-gustation menu with Spanish wines is what I request from the maid each time I write.

– Where do you get your daily inspiration from?: Surveillance cameras, secret wire taps, and a network of informants all over the world from Bedouins in the Sahara desert to Arms Dealers in Scandavia, the postman who delivers your mail and your mother.

– If you could collaborate with ANYBODY, who would it be and why?: Jessica Alba or Miranda Kerr. Why? I am in love with her. Artists – well again so many people I admire. But more so I’d like to work with a new up and comer like myself hungry to produce amazing work and tell great stories.

– If a bartender named a drink after you, what would it be called?: What would be in it?: Acid in Water. – Brown Sugar, Rum, Mint, Something sweet and a deadly acid that will kill you in a matter of seconds

– What’s your idea of a perfect day?:  A beautiful sunny day. me taking my girls (my 2 dogs Rio and Ria) for a good run in a park. We stop by the comic shop, buy 100 comics Go home where Jessica Alba or Miranda Kerr is waiting for us with cocktails by the pool  She has read my latest comic story and loves it. Start the night at a Latin Club with a 10 piece latin band doing salsa with Jessica Alba or Miranda Kerr I am just hoping she reads this in the event I become famous and they becomes single.

– If you could change your name to anything what would you change it to?: Sorab Del Rio – The Greatest.

– Likes: Indie Comics, A good story whether its a comic, book or movie, Dogs, Salsa Music, Thai Food, A good Chilli, People who read comics.

– Dislikes: People who talk about personal growth and positive affirmations. People who don’t read comics. Video Games. Sad and depressing Music.

– Favourite joke: What would have changed the course of Christmas? The Dingo in Bethlehem.

– Any thank you’s/shoutouts?: The Silver Fox Creative and Team – thanks for bringing my stories to Life. The Silver Fox fans – thank you for appreciating our stories, our comics, our art. All the Pop Culture Conventions in Australia and Comic Stores – Thank you so much for giving us a platform to connect with fans.
