Over the past summer I had the privilege of meeting a lot of touring bands in the nerdcore: geek music scene. pretty much what that means is these bands and artists sing about geeky themes. I had a gig where I was on stage as Velma Dinkley for a CD release party for the nerdcore rapper Doug Funnie. While waiting for our turn to get up on stage- I was able to catch a set by the Fort Worth, Texas band, Lindby. The caught my attention with their big band jazz style rendition of “Pure imagination” from the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”. Since then I’ve been following their sound cloud and Facebook page since. Recently with the upcoming new Dr. Who special, the band released the tune titled “Timey Whimey Christmas” and I felt it was a perfect day today, Christmas Day to share it.

I managed to pin down Nick, one of the members of Libby for a bit of info on the new song and album.

Taffeta: Tell us about Lindby had going on and why Dr Who.

Nick: We decided to do Doctor Who parody because, well, Doctor Who is AWESOME! That, and also the 50th anniversary special was going to air soon, as well as the annual Doctor Who Christmas Episode. We did a Star Wars parody last year (“Cold, It Is On The Dark” side, which you can view here: ), so we wanted to do a different theme this year. Plus, we really wanted to sample Daleks and put them in a song, haha.

We’ve love doing different types and styles of tunes because that’s what we’re influenced by. Our current lineup has been together for almost a year now, so we love combining all of our musical tastes into one EP or album. That’s why there’s a couple of jazz tunes, a straight-ahead rocker, a Bach arrangement for synths and drums, and a remix by our good friend tanner4105. We have a great time working on this music together, especially when it’s Christmas time!
