We knew she was cast as an Elvin character Peter Jackson and crew made up for the films. When that story first broke, I had no problems at all with this. There were practically zero female characters in the book The Hobbit so it was a bit of a no brainer.

On the show Lost, Kate became really fucking annoying but I thought Ms. Lily did great work with what she was given. Never blame an actor for the stupidity of the writing team.

Then Peter and company expanded The Hobbit to 3 films and I started to get worried. Yeah, I know they’re putting stuff in there from the appendices but 3 movies worth? Alright Mr. Jackson, I loved the shit out of Lord of the Rings (I spent my new years eve in a robe watching the entire Extended Edition saga while eating pizza– Shut up… it was fucking awesome.)

Then I saw An Unexpected Journey and… well… I started having Phantom Menace flashbacks. I mean, sure The Hobbit was a kid’s book but I still assumed the tone would more closely match his LotR movies and he would have learned the “don’t go apeshit overboard on the CGI” lesson. But the movie was decent enough–
