A-Link-Between-Worlds-Box-ArtBeing a child from the 80’s, I always found myself having a passion for Nintendo Legends. Mario, Samus Aran, and Link, were common names for me to me during those days. Those were the classics, with Zelda being the ultimate fantasy action game. Years later, A Link to the Past, finally came out on Super Nintendo and instantly became a favorite of mine and others.

The best thing about a Zelda game is that you can always pick up a Zelda game and without playing other Zelda games, play the game as a new experience. A Link to the Past revolutionized this for the Super Nintendo and the fan boys ate it up.  I myself remember months of sitting in my room playing Zelda while drinking Mountain Dew, playing the water temple and trying to get all the pieces of heart.

This new adventure for the 3DS has completely captured my 13 year old self and brought him to 2014.  The games mechanics and map is almost dead on for the original Hyrule of A Link to the Past.  The gaming mechanics in regards to fighting and interface, although been tweaked, are similar enough to bring you back into the game.

What branches off is the two new unique abilities you have in this game which is the ability to merge into the wall as a chalk or painting and the ability to rent items right away instead of owning them outright.  This has completely opened up the map as it never has before.  I was able to defend myself at times by just merging into a wall instead of having to fight my way out of the fight.  I also was able to go to any dungeon in any order, in fact, after reviewing a few sites after I beat the game, I noticed that I did it out of order of the original A Link to the Past Game.

The only grip i have about this game is that it did seem a little easy.  Once you have beat the game, it allows you to play it again in Hero mode, which is supposed to be more difficult, but per my stats at the end of the game, I beat the game without dying.

Also for others, I do realize this could be bad, but if you die in the game, you lose all the items you have rented.  For others, that could make the game for fun, but for me, instead of losing my items, a fairy would come from the bottles I had collected and saved my life.

Overall, I would give this game a 9-10 in my rating scale.  It’s a solid 3DS game that will keep you entertained and make you relive your childhood.
