The first trailer for Ghost In The Shell is here, and we couldn’t be more intrigued!

Director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) brings his vision to the much beloved anime adaptation starring Scarlett Johansson:

Ghost In The Shell follows Major (Johannson), a special ops one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotics advancements in cyber technology.

The original anime story explores what it means to be human. When you can copy your consciousness to another body, when do you stop being human? Is it your body or mind or both that makes you who you are? In addition, in the world of Ghost in the Shell, hackers can plant memories in your head and the recipient can’t tell what’s real or fake. The world of Ghost in the Shell tries to deal with real issues in a technologically advanced world.

Paramount Studios held a HUGE event in Tokyo to launch the trailer and show off some of the costumes and props, Collider has a great gallery of some of the things on display.

The film also stars Michael Pitt (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Boardwalk Empire), Juliette Binoche (Chocolat, The English Patient), Takeshi Kitano and Rila Fukushima (The Wolverine).

Ghost In The Shell opens worldwide on March 31st 2017.
