According to the Latino Review

A well-connected source informed me tonight that Johnny Depp has taken a meeting with Marvel to discuss taking on the role of Dr. Strange.

In addition to that according to this source Johnny has been a fan of comics for a long time now and is very interested in playing the part.  And it is said that if he does decide to don the cape the original script will require a bit of an overhaul. El Mayimbe commented that the original script has a 30 -year old Dr Stange but agrees that Marvel wouldn’t think twice about changing things if it meant they have Johnny added into the cast.
