We waited to run anything about this particular hot news item, mostly because it didn’t sound right.  Since the smash hit success of George Miller’s 4th installment in the Mad Max franchise in 2015, rumors have been buzzing about the future of the franchise.

Mad Max: Fury Road opened to tremendous approval from fans and critics alike.  Obviously, this morning it garnered a total of 10 Oscar nominations including the big two, Best Director AND Best Picture.

It was only a matter of time before the initial reports of Miller stating he was NOT continuing in the wasteland were called to light.

This is Australian filmmaker George Miller’s first directorial Oscar nomination (he previously won for producing on Happy Feet) and in this interview with The Wrap following the Oscar nominations, he clears up the earlier confusion:

“That was a completely garbled interview. I was in New York and it was so noisy and the journalist was asking me questions on a red carpet at the National Board of Review,” he said. “She completely got the wrong fragments of information that were just not true. I said no, [another ‘Mad Max’ movie] will not be next, and she took that to mean I never wanted to make another ‘Mad Max.’ It won’t necessarily be next, but I have two more stories.”

In anycase, we are so thrilled we’ll get more of the fantastically stylized apocalyptic from Miller, no one else would really be right for the franchise, especially after the resurgence of dirty elegance and amazing visual fetes.
