It’s Tuesday, and that means Marvel News Day! The internet has been abuzz for the past few weeks about the identity of the young man who will don the cowl of the Spider-Man.
Marvel announced this morning that Tom Holland (Wolf Hall, In The Heart Of The Sea) will be playing Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the next Spider-Man film. This will be the first time the character makes an appearance in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe).
Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman Tom Rothman had this to say about the announcement:
“It’s a big day here at Sony. Kevin, Amy and their teams have done an incredible job. The Marvel process is very thorough, and that’s why their results are so outstanding. I’m confident Spider-Man will be no exception. I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”
We are expecting to see the web-slinger in a small cameo in one of other upcoming Marvel titles, the internet seems convinced he’ll show up in Captain America: Civil War.
Marvel also announced their first Spider-Man film will hit theaters in IMAX and 3D on July 28th, 2017, with Jon Watts directing.
