There are very few must see panels this year at the New York Comic Con. As Aggressive Comix’s resident panel lover, this makes me quite sad– that’s not even to bring up the problems I have with the clearing the room policy at the main stage this year.

But at least Edward Norton and Michael Keaton were at the Empire Stage this year to premiere 10 minutes of footage of the upcoming Birdman. The film follows an actor who played a superhero called Birdman years ago and tries to revive his career by putting on a stage production.

From what was premiered I can tell you that the film is going to be incredibly surreal. Keaton’s character, Riggan Thomson, also believes he’s telekinetic and is introduced in the clip to be levitating. But it’s hard to tell whether it’s all in his mind or he truly has this ability.

The first ten minutes are also shot in a way that simulates a single continuous shot. It’s obvious that it’s not from how characters appear and disappear during certain transitions. From what reviewers who’ve seen the whole film when it premiered at the Venice Film Festival, this shooting style makes it’s way throughout the entire film.

I can’t wait until this film has it’s wide release later this month on October 17th.
