First things first:

3. I’m not sayind Ben Affleck is the best choice; just that he’s a good choice
4. I’m not trolling, I’m totally serious.

With that out of the way, Ben Affleck is a pretty good choice to play Batman. I’m a fanboy and my first reaction to the news was “SRSLYWTFKTHXBAI”. But then I stopped to think about it and thought “you know, this could work”.

If they’re looking to replicate Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, well, then this is a fucking terrible idea but I don’t think that’s where they’re going. I hope and pray they go with a mix between The Animated Series Batman and the comic Batman. Christian Bale was neither one of those, his Batman was angry half the time and emo the other half. And Bale is perfect for that interpretation.

The animated series, on the other hand, presented a bit of a distant and cold and collected Batman– sort of like Michael C. Hall’s Dexter in some ways. In the comics, it was the same except that Batman was just a bit more of a grade A jerk. He’s Batman and he knows it (girl look at that batty).

If you’ve ever seen Affleck in Argo or Hollywoodland or any Kevin Smith movie, really, you start to realize that ol’ Benny is very capable of pulling off an emotionally distant jerkface. If they keep Batman to a more shadowy, subtle performance and not have him scream “HWHEREIFSHEEE!!1!!ONE!” like an 80 year-old chainsmoker this could work pretty well.

Is he my first choice? No– but he’s no Channing Tatum either.

TL;DR – Ben Affleck can play a jerk. Batman is a jerk. ’nuff said.
