’80s kids and cinema lovers rejoice! Announced today, a Karate Kid sequel series, titled Cobra Kai, is expected to premiere on Youtube Red in 2018.  Ralph Macchio (Daniel) and William Zapbka (Johnny Lawrence) will be reprising their roles.

This comedy series will be set 30 years after the original film, with an expected 10, half-hour episodes to come.

According to Entertainment Weekly, “In this next chapter of the saga, Johnny is down on his luck and re-opens the Cobra Kai dojo on his search for redemption. This puts him at odds with Daniel, who, though successful, is trying to find balance in his life without Mr. Miyagi”.

*pours one out for Pat Morita*

Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine) will write the script with Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold and Kumar), while Hurwitz and Schlossberg are mainly directing. Macchio and Zapka are also expected to work as executive producers.

Cobra Kai will be a true continuation of the original films — packed with comedy, heart, and thrilling fight scenes. We can’t wait to reignite the LaRusso-Lawrence rivalry, and we’re thankful to our partners at YouTube Red, Sony Pictures Television, and Overbrook for their shared enthusiasm in making our dream project a reality,” stated Heald, Hurwitz, and Schlossberg in an interview with Hollywood Reporter.

An exact premiere date has yet to be released, but look for the show next year on Youtube Red.
