I am over the moon right now. If you guys follow my reporting, you know one of my favorite books from the past few years is “Ready Player One” by Ernie Cline. It was brought to our attention that Warner Brothers is going ahead with the film adaptation, and they’ve just named the director for the project.
Steven F’ing Spielberg. I cannot begin to tell you guys what good news this is for the future of the film. If you haven’t read the book, go do it now. Right now. Spielberg will, theoretically, be able to get ahold of almost all of the IP and various rights to things mentioned within the story. So much of the plot and why the story resonated is these various games, movies, and songs mentioned.
“We are thrilled to welcome Steven back to Warner Bros. We had an historic series of collaborations in the 80s and 90s and have wanted to bring him back for years,” said Greg Silverman, President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production for Warner Bros. Pictures. “As for Ready Player One, we have always felt that Steven was the dream director for this project.”
STEVEN, HIRE BEAR MCCREARY. Really.
This will be the first film Spielberg has done with Warner Brothers since AI in 2001.
