Here’s one of those “now why didn’t I think of that” type ideas. There’s a new space tourism firm in town that wants to use a high altitude balloon to bring people to the edge of space and back.
World View Experience is the company behind this idea. We’ve seen hundreds of videos of sending cameras to the edge of the atmosphere so it stands to reason that you can do the same with a larger balloon. Plus, unlike Virgin Galactic, this sounds far safer than taking Space Ship II to where space begins. The ticket for the trip is cheaper than Virgin’s $250,000 but still a staggering $75,000.
They plan to start taking people up sometime in 2016 after World View Experience just recently completed a successful unmanned test flight of 102,200 feet above the surface of the Earth. Also, the capsule looks like a tie fighter, so there’s that. Check out the concept images below!
