jj-abrams1_7690Ever since the Disney Death Star sized bomb broke onto the Internets at large, rumor-mill has been churning out bullshit after manufactured fanboy dream bullshit as to who will be (thankfully) replacing George Lucas. The coveted (or perhaps dreaded) directors chair has inquired nearly every well-known cinematic craftsmen out there today. Ranging from the relatively reasonable Iron Man’s Jon Favreau, Mandalorian Pre Visla on The Clone Wars, to the completely improbable Quentin Tarantino …not that we would mind a BAMF engraved lightsaber…everything must be questioned. Another natural choice was the contemporary Star Trek savant, J. J. Abrams, admittedly tinkering Trek into a far more Wars paced adventure. Being intimately close to the galaxy far away, he seemed the shoo-in. Note the immense amount of references to the Star Wars saga – HERE –  seen in Lost. Yet when questioned he confessed to a (temporary) admittance of not being especially interested. Now despite those comments, it seems a change of heart was had. The long and arduous…ah…trek to find the new Irvin Kershner has seemingly (retaining that grain of salt) come to a bountiful end. The Wrap and Deadline have confirmed – HERE – that Abrams is going to boldly go where no Star Wars has gone before. Needless to say, George Takei must be beaming!

“As a kid I was always a fan of special effects,” Abrams said. “Watching movies I was constantly trying to figure out how they did it, whatever the effect was. Star Wars was the first movie that blew my mind in that way; it didn’t matter how they did any of it because it was all so overwhelmingly and entirely great. It was funny and romantic and scary and compelling and the visual effects just served the characters and story. It galvanized for me; not for what was exciting about how movies were made, but rather for what movies were capable of.”
