Maybe lost in the shuffle this weekend due to D23 and all that came with it, the first footage and information on the second season of The Purge television show was revealed.

The first season was more of a straightforward look at a Purge Night, with mixed results. This second season however looks to flip the script a little bit: it will be about the 364 days between Purge Nights. Check out the first look at the new season below:

Based on the hit movie franchise, THE PURGE revolves around a 12-hour period when all crime, including murder, is legal. Season 2 explores how a single Purge night affects the lives of four interconnected characters over the course of the ensuing year, all inevitably leading up to the next Purge. Premiering this fall on USA Network, the second season of the anthology series opens on Purge night but dives deeper than ever before in to what the world looks like the other 364 days of the year.

I have to admit, after season one I was kind of hoping that the show wouldn’t continue. It petered out way too soon and featured some real issues character-wise. However, this story of what happens when the night ends and how characters react to Purging in the days and months after it takes place is quite interesting. This is what the first season should have been, instead of just showing us yet another night of mayhem and mischief. It is a concept to large an undertaking for a Purge film, and is infinitely more interesting than what they gave us in season one. Count me in.
