Call me a traditionalist when it comes to my super heroes and their costumes, but I’m really glad the pants thing didn’t work out.  Yes, I was rather disappointed the new TV series about the Amazonian Princess was abandoned, but breathed a sigh of relief when the unwarranted character redesign was nixed.  There was no reason to change her decades old instantly recognizable outfit other than Warner Brothers owned DC title’s desperate attempt to keep the ‘modern’ female fans happy with de-sexualizing their super-heroine in the wake of any number of “why can’t she have pants like her male counterparts?” But that’s again assuming they CARED what the female fans wanted.  I do understand it was a change in the physical comic book, and so for that I applaud the show creators for agreeing to follow the new line of her wardrobe.

Why is this news again?  Because  the costume designer for the upcoming *cough pushed back cough* Batman vs. Superman movie Michael Wilkinson said:

“It’s so important to get her right. She really deserves to be presented on-screen in her full glory. So what I do is I look at the history of how the character has been presented on the big-screen, and the small-screen, and in comic books, and graphic novels. We process it all. Then we kind of put that aside and work out what is right for our film, for the cinematic universe that our director Zack Snyder is putting together. We try and create a Wonder Woman that’s relevant for today’s audiences.”

Michael was then asked if Wonder Woman would ‘realistically’ fight crime in her traditional outfit, and he said:

“Absolutely! I mean, you just have to look at the gladiators from ancient Rome, they did their thing in little loin clothes and shield….It works for Thor, it works for 300, so let’s see what happens.”

Written by Chris Terrio, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer, Batman vs. Superman will star Henry Cavill as Clark Kent, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Gal Gadot as Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman.  Man of Steel stars Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), and Diane Lane (Martha Kent) will also reprise their roles along with newcomers ​Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons as Alfred. The Zack Snyder directed film is set to open on May 6, 2016 after being pushed back a year from a summer 2015 opening for speculative reasons.
