I sure remember the day the announcement happened that Leonardo DiCaprio with Warner Brothers was working on producing a live action Akira movie. There were bike races in the street, and telekinetic powers running amok! Mostly, the general sentiment about the project were not positive; too many fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender had been burned by the live action Avatar film. But things got quiet around Appian Way (DiCaprio’s production company), and the film rolled to the wayside.
But today, The Wrap reports WB has hired Marco Ramirez to pen a new script adapting the manga for a live action film. Ramirez is the man behind the first few episodes of Netflix’s Daredevil, and all signs point towards him being the right man for the job.
DiCaprio will be producing with Andrew Lazar (American Sniper). Drew Crevello and Nik Mavinkurve will be executive producers on the project for Warner Brothers.
