When it comes to cell phones, the majority of us own a ‘smart’ model. Mostly because the market is saturated with them. Having a smartphone or tablet means games to pass the time. Although some of us use them for work (like writing this article) most don’t know the potential that rests at the palm of their hands.
What if we told you we can make your 80’s/90’s inner kid scream, well get ready. You will now be able to play any old school Atari, Nintendo, Sega Genesis, PS1, on your phone by using Emulation Software on your Android device. Unfortunately this is not available for iPhone users since Apple prohibits emulation software, unless you jailbreak your device.
Below are the different types of emulators you can download and use. Most are free but even if it’s 4 bucks it’s worth it in my eyes:
Atari 2600 (1971) A2600Emu
Nintendo Entertainment System (1985) NesEmu
Gameboy (1989) My OldBoy!
Sega Genesis (1989) MD.emu
Super Nintendo (1991) SNES9x EX
SuperLegacy16 SuperLegacy16.Emu
Sony Playstation (1994) ePSXe
FPse FPse
Nintendo 64 (1996) Mupen64
Gameboy Advance (2001) My Boy!
As a reminder Emulation is not illegal, but pirating software is. In order to legally emulate any video game, you must already own it as a cartridge or on another digital platform (Wii Shop, Xbox Live, etc.). Aggressive Comix does not advocate software piracy. For further information on how to setup the emulator on to your device head over to The Daily Dot.
