It’s open season on Harley Quinn when her explosive breakup with the Joker puts a big fat target on her back in “Birds of Prey.” Unprotected and on the run, Quinn faces the wrath of narcissistic crime boss Black Mask, his right-hand man, Victor Zsasz, and every other thug in the city. But things soon even out for Harley when she becomes unexpected allies with three deadly women — Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya.

In this sequel, we get to see how Harley (Margot Robbie) is handling her break up with the classic Mr. J. In order to save her own skin, she has to find this girl Cassandra Cain before Black Mask’s (Ewan McGregor) goons do it first. Along the way she meets Huntress (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Renee Montoya (played by Rosie Perez), and Black Canary (played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell).

The film is an adrenaline ride that matches a similar tone to that of “Suicide Squad.” The cast was chosen perfectly as each member fully makes contact with how the characters have been established in the original source material. But it suffers slightly from something we know as book ending where the beginning is strong as is the ending but the middle drags a little bit too much. It would have definitely benefited from some minor editing.

Rating 3/5. Was good but missing a little extra juice.

Warner Bros. Pictures “Birds of Prey” opens in theaters on February 7th, 2020.
