Don’t know if he read it or not but he was quite nice.

Creator continued profile. Let’s get a tiny bit personal:

– What are your goals as a creator?: My main goal is to produce as many high quality books as I can, and hopefully before the end of my lifetime I can boast to have a huge body of work made by me. That to me is more important than getting work in the main comic industry. It’s what keeps me going as a comic creator.

– What do you think of Comics being made into movies?: It’s a double edged sword. On one hand it brings new readers in to discover the original content that inspired their favourite films, but on the other hand a great deal of those readers don’t tend to stay on buying comics for too long. I admit I do get a bit uneasy at the sheer amount of comics being turned into movies nowadays, but I figure that anything that garners more attention towards the comic medium is a good thing. Watching Batman Begins back in 2005 got me into reading comics, so there’s always hope for new readers.

– Has reading a Comic ever changed your life? Which one/why? (If yes): The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. As stated before, after watching Batman Begins, I was interested in reading some of the comics that inspired it. The first comic was TDKR. It made me change the way I looked at the medium; prior this I thought they all looked the same and had no artistic merit, but the wild, scratchy and shadowy art of Miller made me change my mind. It was a very punkish comic that caused me to realise that you could do just about anything in comics. It made me read more and more comics, and eventually led me to create them. If it wasn’t for that book I probably would have a real job now!

– If someone created a Comic about your life what would they title it?:
A Nightmare on Bourke St Part XIII:
Frank Goes To Hell. Has a good ring to it I think!

– Where there any defining moments in your life that have influenced your creative style?: It was when I made my comic, The Testament of Doktor Zeitpunkt last year. Before that my style was very cartoony, with lots of curves, sort of looking like Dick Tracy by Chester Gould. With Zeitpunkt however, I decided to adopt a more expressionist style by making the characters look square, with sharper, angular edges. I was only going to use it for that comic, but most people who saw it really responded to the new style, so I decided to use it for the rest of the comics I made.

– If you could have any power from a Comic character, what would it be/why?: Unlimited metabolism, like The Flash. With the amount of beer, coffee and pub food I eat it would come in handy.

– Favourite Comic artist of all time/why?: There’s far too many to mention, but if I had to narrow it down it would be Darwyn Cooke. He’s the best artist to take what is considered “classic comic art” of the Golden and Silver Age and give a modern spin on it. His art is stylish, classy and elegant, any comic that features his art has a real sense of finesse about it (Yes, even Before Watchmen!). (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwyn_Cooke)

– What do you prefer to snack on when creating a masterpiece?:
A combination of beer and coffee. Not necessarily at the same time. That way I’m both stimulated and depressed at the same time! Wait…

– Favourite Comic writer of all time/why?: Grant Morrison. Love or hate the guy, you have to admit he’s one of the most original writers to grace the comic scene, and even his stories that don’t work are still interesting to read. My favourite stories of his would have to be Flex Mentallo and The Filth, both of them are similar in that it depicts the kind of world that exists in the space between spaces. He’s one of those creators that proves that anything is possible in the medium. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grant_Morrison)

– Do you get scared of the dark?: You merely adopted the darkness, I was BORN in it!

– Which character in a Comic turns you on the most/why?:
Granny Goodness from The New Gods. Betty White in a costume designed by Jack Kirby? Hot.

– Likes: Beer, movies, comics, beer, animation, pizza, heavy metal, horror, bubble wrap…and beer.

– Dislikes: I love everything…except for the things I dislike.

– Favourite joke: Steve Guttenberg. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Guttenberg)

– For the impending zombie apocalypse, what will be your weapon of choice and why?: A frying pan. According to the movie Tangled, they can kill just about anything.

– Any thank you’s/shoutouts?: I probably wouldn’t have continued making comics if not for the support of my many talented creator friends. So to everybody even remotely involved in the local comics scene, I thank you and salute you! You’re all schmick.
