I get that the zombie thing has sort of been done to death, but it’s enjoyed a small rest and is coming back with Dead Rising 3, and Xbox One exclusive title. You play as Nick, a mechanic caught in an outbreak. Get this, though, rather than being confined to a mall-esque area like the other two games, Dead Rising 3 places you in the wide open world of Los Perdidos.

The new level of visual fidelity is pretty impressive, though I worry that the game is trying to be way more serious than the other two, much of the charm of which was gleaned from the sheer kookiness of the narrative. The ability to craft items is back, and no longer seems to require traveling to a special room, and I really dug the way that driving a car into a shambling horde resulted in noticeable slowdown and increased danger.
