On Friday everyone was down right giddy to find out that Deadpool was getting a movie! YES! BUT Now, Schmoes Know brings word that apparently Merc with a mouth is aiming for… a PG-13 rating:

“I heard from the director (Tim Miller) that they finally figured out the script, and it was right before this was announced, that they figured out, and you guys are all going to hate this, that they figured out how to make it PG-13 and therefore not lose its soul – that’s a quote – of the script so they can make it.”

SuperHeroHype pointed out that if  this is true, it’s understandable why Fox would be unwilling to make a “hard R”Deadpool film given the track record of R-rated superhero movies. 2009′s Watchmen is the highest-grossing R-rated superhero movie with just $107 million at the domestic box office. A number of other mid-level films fall in just under that – Blade brought in $70 million, Constantine hit $75 million, and Blade II gathered $82 million, but there a few of the R-rated superhero movies that land even lower on the scale such as Dredd with $13 million and Punisher: War Zone with just $8 million.

Here is our counter point to that one, none of those movies were regarded as MUST SEE! The only one that was considered good was Dredd and even that was not a OMG THIS IS AMAZING!!!!  If you PG the one character that is TARGETED towards adult you are already playing behind the 8-Ball on the character.  That doesn’t mean that you have to make it raunchy and campy but it has to be good. EXAMPLE Zombieland was a Rated R film made $102 Million Dollars world wide, Kick-Ass made $96 Million, and yes I am aware also not a Comic book Movie but Expendables 2 made $305 Million. But again you are dealing with a more adult character. So I really do question there logic behind this forced decision. Guess we shall soon see.

Ryan Reynolds is expected to play Wade Wilson (aka the role he was born to play) in the upcoming film directed by Tim Miller, penned by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Deadpool will be in theaters February 12, 2016.
