We’ve been talking a lot lately about the JLA lately, and this post about Flash is not the one you might think. Only Doctor Hans Zarkhov, formerly at NASA, has provided any explanation, but we know for SURE the reboot/remake of the classic series Flash Gordon is a go. I say classic because aside from Buck Rodgers and John Carter of Mars, Flash was one of the early sci-fi heroes to inspire the masses.
The Flash Gordon franchise has known life so far as three early short film serials spanning from 1938-1940, the AWESOME 1980 film with Max Von Sydow and Sam J. Jones, 6 different tv shows (some of them animated), and now something NEW.
It appears 20th Century Fox is looking to follow in the footsteps of Universal Studios and the SyFy Channel, bringing the high school football star who journeys to another star with a man’s courage you know he’s nothing but a man and he can never fail to the big screen. (Yes, I’m going to continue to use Queen Lyrics.) We know via Hollywood Reporter John Davis is signed on to produce, and the writing team of J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are on board as well. (Payne and McKay are also currently working on the script for Star Trek 3.)
Hopefully they’ll not neglect the awesomeness that is King Vultan and his epic “DIIIIIIIIIVE” line, the hawtness that is Princess Aura (omnomnom, drooling on my keyboard) nor the bitchin’ score of the 1980 film which I think I need to go watch now.
Because really, the only possible frontman to recreate the sound and energy of Freddie Mercury are the McCreary brothers Brendan and Bear. See for yourself:
