Our friends over at Ace Of Geeks ran this story today about Wizards Of The Coast releasing a FREE printable edition of “Basic D & D“, Dungeons & Dragons Next.

They report the free printable PDF of D&D Next will be released at the same time as the core rulebooks, and contain all the rules needed to play the game. It will allow the players to advance to level 20, and play as the Cleric, Fighter, Rogue and Wizard, while also including rules for the dwarf, elf, halfling and human races. The PDF will start with the basic rules for character creation and advancement at the launch of the Starter Set, then expand to include “he essential monsters, magic items, and DM rules needed to run the game, along with the rules for wilderness, dungeon, and urban adventuring,” on the release of the Player’s Handbook on August 19th.

And a quote from Mike Mearls (the senior manager for the D&D research and design team) who worked on the Ravenloft board game along with a number of supplements for the D&D RPG:  “But the best part? Basic D&D is a free PDF. Anyone can download it from our website. We want to put D&D in as many hands as possible, and a free, digital file is the best way to do that.”

EDIT:

There is ALSO some new logo stuff going on with the Dungeons & Dragons release of the 5th edition.
