In the first ever Geek Fashion Show at San Diego Comic Con International, Her Universe invited designers from across the country to compete in a runway fashion show hosted by Hot Topic and Nerdist.  36 designers took their geek inspired designs to the runway in the hopes of winning an opportunity to co-design a Her Universe fashion collection for Hot Topic. Two winners were chosen for this prize, one by the audience and the other by the panel of judges.

And no one could be more qualified to judge Geek Fashion than the panel for this show:  Chloe Dykstra of SyFy’s Heros of Cosplay, and Nerdist’s Just Cos and Chaotic Awesome; Justine Ezarik a.k.a. iJustine a well known techie, gamer and vlogger; world renowned designer and author Tarina Tarantino; Hot Topic senior vp of merchandising and marketing, Cindy Levitt; and comedy sister duo Hilly and Hannah Hindi of The Hillywood Show®. Joining them on the judging panel were Lucasfilm executives Tara Sinclair, Senior Manager Softlines, and Lacey Prince Product Development head for softlines, fashion and accessories.

Ashley Eckstein, founder of Her Universe,  opened the show in a Catherine Elhoffer couture  gown inspired by My Neighbor Totoro.

The Judge’s Choice of winning design was “Great Skirt, Marty” designed by Amy Beth Christenson inspired by Back to the Future; specifically the DeLorean

The Audience Choice of winning design was “Regina’s Curse”  designed by Andrew MacLaine inspired by ABC’s Once Upon a Time. Complete with a true-to-show transformation, MacLaine’s model, Jessica Nielsen walked onto the runway in one outfit, only to throw off her hat and jacket to reveal the gown underneath.

  1. Hi Deb, Is there anyway you can send me the doctor doom images? I’m the designer and I didn’t get a chance to really photograph my design whatsoever. I’m not going to use it as a publicity thing, I just want it for my own safe keeping and share with friends and family if that’s ok with you? Please email me: maggiechn@gmail.com
