While yes, we’re still not sure what to think about this sequel to the 1996 action flick Independence Day, the news of returning original cast members is at least furthering curiosity.
We’re pretty sure Will Smith won’t be coming back, he’s made it very clear he has no real interest in the spacey sequel. Let’s take a look at the confirmed returning cast, shall we?
Jeff Goldblum is coming back as David Levinson, the unwitting hero and puncher of the President.
(Producer Dean Devlin posted this photo from set earlier today.)
Speaking of President, Bill Pullman is coming back as former President Thomas J. Whitmore.
Judd Hirsch is coming back as Julius Levinson, David’s father.
Vivica A. Fox is returning as Jasmine Dubrow. Or should we call her Jasmine Hiller as her character married Will Smith’s Steve Hiller in the first film.
And perhaps the most shocking return, Brent Spiner as Dr. Brakish Okun. Seriously, I thought he died after the whole “No peace” thing.
New cast members include Liam Hemsworth as Jake Morrison, Maika Monroe as former President Whitmore’s daughter Patricia all grown up, Sela Ward as current President Lanford, and Joey King, Charlotte Gainsbourg as yet unnamed characters.
You can expect to see Independence Day 2 hit theaters on June 24th, 2016.
