While most outlets are reporting this new twist as SHOCKING, I’m not all that surprised.  J.J. Abrams who is heading the new chapter in the Star Wars cinematic universe is apparently NOT going to be directing or writing the yet untitled Star Wars: VIII and IX that will come after his Star Wars: VII currently in production.

He will instead be passing the reigns (or should we say hyperdrive controls) over to Rian Johnson.

Rian has the right frame of mind for the project already, posting this clip from The Right Stuff after the announcement was made this morning.
