As reported by Nerdist, Jared Leto will not be reprising his role in the upcoming Joker origin story. Although Leto is excluded, he is still expected to star in the Suicide Squad sequel and Harley Quinn spin-off.

 

It was also announced yesterday that Todd Phillips (Hangover films) will be directing, co-writing with Scott Silver (8 Mile, The Fighter), and the legendary Martin Scorsese will produce, creating a peculiar trio of personnel.

The film will be set in the early 1980s, prompting a younger actor for the Joker role. Gotham’s atmosphere will possibly get that gritty and dark feeling through Scorsese’s signature style.

 

I’m not sure if I totally back an origin story for this stand out, mysterious character, but we’ll see.
