Screen Shot 2014-06-02 at 10.11.35 AMRumors of a new Mortal Kombat title have been around for a while, with a poster and new logo both making their rounds but now NetherRealm studios has  officially announced Mortal Kombat X. Fueled by next-gen technology, Mortal Kombat X aims to combine a cinematic presentation with dynamic gameplay to create an unprecedented “Kombat” experience.

The trailer looks fantastic. As of right now we can only speculate as to whether it was made entirely of gameplay footage or if it’s CGI. Either way, it’s a reason for all fans of the series to get excited. A number of features were shown off, including the return of personal weaponry as well as environmental interaction. Will we actually get to rip off branches from random trees? Maybe…hopefully.

The video also shows the return of X-Ray attacks introduced in the 2011 reboot of the franchise, which can get pretty gruesome. The list of formats that it may be available for in the upcoming future has yet to be announced.

The announcement trailer, which you can watch below, features an an original track by Wiz Khalifa titled “Can’t Be Stopped.”
