Godzilla vs. Kong is a 2021 American monster film directed by Adam Wingard. A sequel to Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Kong: Skull Island (2017), it is the fourth film in Legendary’s MonsterVerse. The film is also the 36th film in the Godzilla franchise, the 12th film in the King Kong franchise, and the fourth Godzilla film to be completely produced by a Hollywood studio. The film stars Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, and Demián Bichir.
PLOT:
The story starts five years after the most recent Godzilla film. He and Kong are the two last know Titans alive. Monarch has created a containment unit that surrounds Kong but also prevents Godzilla from realizing he is even around. Outside of Monarch Jia, an Iwi native, is one of Kong’s only friends who communicates with Kong with the use of sign language.
While that is occurring we learn that Apex is looking to find a way to hollow earth in search of a super power source. Godzilla almost randomly attacks the facility. This causes massive concern where people fear the Godzilla is no longer a protector. At this point Apex feels that they need to advance their pursuits to hollow earth and they feel Kong is one of the only ways for their team to travel to area safely. Lead by Nathan Lind, a former Monarch scientist turned theorist on the Hollow Earth, becomes the lead guide in search of this new power source within the Hollow Earth. While in route to the artic, this is where the launch to hollow earth was created, Godzilla and Kong have their first epic battle. And it is spectacular.
REVIEW:
Godzilla VS Kong is everything we have been waiting for from film of this nature. The human interaction is much reduced so we get the most our from our monster beat ’em up film. The film contains two massive battles between Kong and Godzilla. One which occurs on a air plane carrier while the other is in downtown Hong Kong. The graphics were exceptional and beyond impressive, which is really required on a film of this size. The lack of human interaction in the film really made the film in my opinion. Usually they always require “human interaction” to develop the plot but the plot was very simple in this film but it works. The plot was basically Apex is looking for a new energy source and requires Kong to show them they way to it. In the process the two titans go to blows.
While I know that Covid is still a major concern, this is a film that really benefits from watching on the silver screen and not just a TV Screen. So if can travel safely to see this picture I would strongly suggest watching it on the biggest screen you can come across. I give this film a 9/10 for Monster Bashing good times.
