Shinji Mikami, the father of survival horror, is back to direct The Evil Within™ (known in Japan as “Psycho Break”) – a game embodying the meaning of pure survival horror. Highly-crafted environments, horrifying anxiety, and an intricate story weave together to create an immersive world that will bring players to the height of tension. The Evil Within is in development for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC and is slated for release in 2014.

Waking up in a land where monsters are wandering about, you play as Detective Sebastian Castellanos. You have to fight your way through a world of death and his close friend’s madness in order to understand what’s going on.

After watching the eleven minutes of gameplay I was left with one thought: “I NEED to play this game.” We’ve all heard of Amnesia: the Dark Descent and other games alike but to be put into someone’s shoes who has the capacity to fight back while at the same time losing control of your bowls out of sheer terror….that’s unheard of. Games normally over power the player and put too little time into causing whoever is holding the controller – to experience real fear.

I have high hopes that this new output from Bethseda will put the fear of God back into survival horror games but until I can get my hands on the game, I’m left with bitter anticipation.
