imageRecently the world lost and icon.  We lost a legendary man who influenced fashion and inspired so many through his music. Nearly five weeks ago the world said goodbye to our favorite Starman, David Bowie. I won’t go into a long “how David Bowie influenced me” story but rather how I was in awe to see how many others had their own story.

When the news hit social media about David’s passing I couldn’t help but tear up throughout the day (and sometimes even now) while reading posts of Bowie’s death and how hundreds of thousands of people were(are) mourning with me. It’s an interesting feeling to mourn and cry, like ugly hard crying, over the death of someone I’ve never met. But I did cry, hard and ugly styles. With the lamenting over such an incredible artist gone, Dallas did what it does best and threw a party in David Bowie’s honor. The non-profit art group ArtLoveMagic held an open call for David Bowie tribute art and over 50 artists from around the DFW area came together to honor an extraordinary life.

I attened last night’s opening party (I also have a piece in the show) at South Side on Lamar and had a great time celebrating with fellow David Bowie fans. Check out some of the live art and show pieces for the month long event that make the Dallas art scene one that I am truly proud to be a fan of.

image*Due to the overwhelming interest, the gallery was crowded at times and I wasn’t able to get all the names of the artists, or their business cards but i feel like most of the art is represented here. OH!! As an added bonus local David Bowie fan and look-a-like,  Peter Cwalino, was in attendance. I’ll admit that when I saw Peter walk downstairs into the show while David Bowie’s final album Blackstar was playing, I got goose bumps and felt week in the knees, so surreal.

Artist Jerod “Dtox” Davies is one of the top muralists in Dallas and worked on an elaborate collage of David Bowie for the attendees.

The ArtLoveMagic gallery contained over 50 celebratory tributes.
